National Suicide Prevention Project

Print

CBAA national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, in partnership with the Australia Government Department of Health.

Each month, 20 short radio segments are released to community broadcasters across Australia. They are designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives. The purpose of the project is to:

  • raise awareness of suicide prevention;
  • reduce the stigma around suicide;
  • reduce the prevalence of suicide and suicidal behaviours in Australia and its impact on individuals, their families and communities.

Broadcasters can find the latest audio segments in the articles below.

This month we find out about 13YARN, offering confidential support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We learn about headspace's campaign on the mental health of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. We catch up with R U OK? about the difference we can make in someone’s life if we ask them ‘are you okay?, and we hear about the work Roses in the Ocean is doing to provide safe spaces for people experiencing emotional or suicidal distress.
