Suicide Prevention Project

Alex Crerar, 12th October 2022

The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the October 2022 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month we find out about 13YARN, offering confidential support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We learn about headspace's campaign on the mental health of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. We catch up with R U OK? about the difference we can make in someone’s life if we ask them ‘are you okay?, and we hear about the work Roses in the Ocean is doing to provide safe spaces for people experiencing emotional or suicidal distress.
