Community Broadcasting Suicide Prevention Project - January 2014
The January 2014 content of the CBAA's national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, is now available to download.
Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.
This month we hear about Conversations Matter, a new resource developed by the Hunter Institute of Mental Health to support members of the community to talk about suicide in a safe and effective way.
We learn about Families Like Mine, a new e-book that provides guidance to families of young gender diverse and same-sex attracted people.
We look at the impacts of depression on older people, and support available for people bereaved through suicide.
We also profile a range of suicide prevention and mental health services, including Kids Helpline, Lifeline, the Suicide Call Back Service, Mental Health in Multicultural Australia, MensLine Australia, the Standby Response Service, R U OK?, SANE Australia, beyondblue, ReachOut, and the Butterfly Foundation.
For more information on this project, please contact the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia on (02) 9310 2999.
