Community Broadcasting Suicide Prevention Project - April 2018
Welcome to the April 2018 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.
What's in this month's segments?
- This month we chat with Jake Sinclair, a country music singer and songwriter who is a strong advocate for the importance of reaching out for help if we’re going through tough times.
- We hear about the Culture Squad, a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who are working to place culture and identity at the centre of suicide prevention.
- We catch up with the SANE StigmaWatch team to find out what you should do if you’re upset or offended by the way the media is portraying mental illness or suicide, or believe what they’re saying is inaccurate.
- And we profile some web-based resilience tips for parents and a practice guide for professionals beyondblue has developed, with the aim of providing everyday strategies that can be applied in kindergartens, schools and at home.
