The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the May 2026 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month, we learn about Yarn up, which provides a safe online space for First Nations young people to connect with community, hear from others, and access wellbeing resources and support.

We profile Rail R U OK?, a movement that aims to empower rail workers to identify the signs that someone might not be OK and offer guidance on how to
support them, any day of the year.

We hear how headspace Work & Study helps thousands of young people in Australia each year to reach their work or study goals through free tailored 1-on-1
support, helpful articles, and group chats.

We catch up with Mon from ReachOut to find out how the relentless 24/7 news cycle can impact on the wellbeing of young people, and to get some advice on how young people can cope if bad world news is causing them to feel overwhelmed, disconnected or confused.

And we learn about Mindframe’s guide for media for reporting on suicide and mental health in LGBTIQA+ communities, which aims to support safe and sensitive public communication about this issue.
