The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia is pleased to welcome you to the second edition of Your Story, Your Decision, our end of life and palliative care project which has been produced with the support of the New South Wales Government.
Palliative care is something many of us may have encountered in our lives and is definitely something we all need to know more about.
It addresses the needs of people with a life-limiting illness to allow them to live as well and as comfortably as possible, and aims to improve the quality of life for patients, their families and carers by helping the person during their illness through to their death.
In this edition, we learn about the importance of advance care planning and the role it can play in enabling you to make decisions about the health care you would like to receive if you were to become seriously ill.
We catch up with Dr Kristin Bindley from Palliative Care Social Work Australia to find out what grief and bereavement can look like throughout the palliative care process and following the loss of a loved one.
We learn why it's important for young people to know about palliative care and to be included and involved in their care.
And we find out about the resources and support available for carers who are providing palliative care at home.
