The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia is pleased to welcome you to the first edition of Your Story, Your Decision, our end of life and palliative care project which has been produced with the support of the New South Wales Government.
Palliative care is something many of us may have encountered in our lives and is definitely something we all need to know more about.
It addresses the needs of people with a life-limiting illness to allow them to live as well and as comfortably as possible, and aims to improve the quality of life for patients, their families and carers by helping the person during their illness through to their death.
In this edition, Dr Pippa Blackburn, co-director of the Division of Palliative Care at the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, explains to us what palliative care, who it is for and where it is delivered.
Palliative Care New South Wales CEO Kirsty Blades tells us about the work they do to promote quality palliative care for everyone throughout the state and to ensure that people with a progressive life-limiting illness are supported to live as well and as comfortably as possible.
Supportive and Palliative Care Physician Dr Sally Greenaway highlights some of the common myths and misunderstandings about palliative care and explains the facts.
And Dr Kristin Bindley from Palliative Care Social Work Australia tells us about the role of families and carers in palliative care and explains where they can get the information and support they need.
