The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) is a non-profit organisation that provides licences for broadcasters to play recordings commercially released in Australia. Licence fees are distributed to record labels and registered Australian artists who create the recordings.
What Does the License Cover?
- PPCA can offer a simulcast licence to radio broadcasters that stream programs online simultaneously with the radio broadcast.
- Members are eligible for a 50% discount on the combined license which includes a broadcast licence, music on hold licence and an optional simulcast licence.
What About Podcasting?
Currently, there is no PPCA licence for podcasting available to community radio stations. We are working with the PPCA to finalise an agreement that will allow the podcasting/on-demand use of copyright material. As it stands, stations are not allowed to podcast copyright material, such as music, until they have such a licence.
