Station Community Engagement Survey

The Station Community Engagement Survey is a do-it-yourself, affordable audience research program for community radio stations. The results can help with programming and planning at your station, including:

  • Identifying who your listeners are (demographics), when, how and why they listen to your station, what they like to listen to, how well you’re meeting their needs and what they value most about your station.
  • Understanding groups and segments that may be willing to become a member or volunteer at your station.
  • Training presenters and program makers.
  • Providing basic data to support your pitch to a potential sponsor.
  • Compiling important data to include in your ACMA licence renewal.

How it works

The survey runs across three rounds per year. 

  1. Get in touch and let us know you're keen

  2. We'll get back to you with a letter of agreement for the next survey round. 

  3. You'll receive a unique hyperlink to your survey, along with a comprehensive user guide with information on how to best promote your survey to listeners, a sample communications plan and additional promotional resources.

  4. You'll promote the survey to your station’s listeners over the period of 1 month. With good promotion, you’ll get a larger sample of the station’s listeners. You will be aiming for 200+ respondents.

  5. The CBAA will deliver your station’s report as prepared by McNair YellowSquares 3-4 weeks following the close of the survey.
What it costs

Each survey is $435 including GST for CBAA member stations not already subscribed to the National Listener Survey. This is a 20% discount from the non-member rate of $540.

National Listener Survey subscribers are eligible to participate in this survey free-of-charge (limited to one survey per station per NLS subscription year).

Next round key dates

The next round of this survey is planned for March 2019. 

  • 3 April: survey opens 
  • 1 May: survey closes 
  • End of May: report delivered by McNair yellowSquares
