iHeartRadio Frequently Asked Questions

Print

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions by stations regarding iHeartRadio.

Technical Requirements

What stream quality does my station need to provide?

CBAA requires a 64Kbps AAC-HE (or AAC plus) stream.

Can we include station podcasts?

You can submit your podcasts at https://www.iheart.com/content/submit-your-podcast/

Can we submit multiple services?

If your station has multiple services (e.g. AM/FM and a unique DAB+ service) and you want both services on iHeartRadio, then please complete a form for each service you wish submitted.

Fees, Advertisement & Promotions

Is there a cost to joining iHeartRadio?

CBAA is charging a $300.00 one-off set-up fee and an annual $150.00 maintenance fee.

Does my station pay for any data costs to the Community Radio Server?

You incur a trivial cost for the single stream you send to the CBAA iHeartRadio server. It’s as if one listener is using your stream.

Do I have over advertisements shown on my station's page on iHeartRadio?

Yes, you can choose not to feature advertising content in the following categories;

  • Alcohol
  • Gambling
  • Religious
  • Political and Other radio stations

What advertising is used on iHeartRadio?

  • Video pre-roll fires after 15 minutes, but only if you change the station.
  • Banner advertising is also used.
  • There are no audio pre-rolls.

Your broadcast sponsorship messages will not be touched by ARN, they take the stream they are given.

Can I include alternative common search terms for my station?

Search can be amended, however usually typing a variation will bring up the correct station.

Can I access my station listener analytics?

Not at this moment.  We are currently working towards supplying listener analytics for stations.

Can my station send push notifications and in-app messaging to listeners of my stream?

Yes. iHeartRadio manages all customer communications. They are highly targeted, and they reserve them for big events or moments.

Will our stream be heard outside Australia?

Interested stations could also broadcast to NZ and some of the Pacific Islands, but initially we will geoblock to Australia only as it is unlikely any stations have appropriate copyright licences for those regions.
