Community broadcasting is a vital part of the Australian media landscape. Over 450 radio stations broadcast more than 500 services across Australia and play an important role in providing a voice for communities that aren’t adequately serviced by other broadcasting sectors.  
 
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) was established to build strong and successful community broadcasters. Created to give a voice to those otherwise not heard on air, the CBAA has always prided itself on maintaining a diverse sector, supported by volunteers and community-minded individuals. 
 
We now have this fantastic opportunity to be part of the Executive team and to lead, manage and mentor staff across multiple program areas. Reporting to the CEO, this brilliant opportunity supports the CBAA’s strategy and goals by successfully leading projects and fostering collaborative, cross functional teams. Based in Sydney with hybrid work arrangements.   
 
As General Manager, you will provide strategic leadership across CBAA’s program areas, to support strong member engagement and to enhance member satisfaction. Reporting to the CEO, your role serves on the Executive Leadership Team and is a key decision-maker on organisational direction and effectiveness. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 

  • lead, manage and mentor staff across the multiple program areas to achieve program outcomes 

  • mitigate and remove impediments to strengthen collaborative ways of working across teams 

  • embed excellence in service delivery to stations across all teams 

  • provide advice on quality programs, product development, practices and policies 

  • support development of collaborative opportunities across stations through targeted funding ie the News Project 

  • lead co-design of improved process and systems to ensure efficient technology solutions within CBAA that also supports the membership

Relevant qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Previous program and project management leadership for a range of programs (size, complexity, and risk) 

  • Superior problem-solving skills including the ability to identify risk and implement solutions 

  • High level interpersonal and relationship building skills 

  • Superior analytical skills and track record of accurate reporting 

  • Excellent influencing skills 

  • Results-focused and to meet deadlines 

  • High levels of personal drive and energy 

  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability 

  • Ability to provide and maintain quality service and always portray a professional image on behalf of CBAA 

  • Willingness to work outside standard hours when required 

  • Willingness to travel as required 

  • An understanding and experience of the role of community broadcasting highly regarded

This is a full-time position comprising two part-time positions with Barkly Regional Arts and 8CCC Community Radio.
