Member Partnerships Officer, Paula Baxter

Paula is one of the CBAA's newest team members and we are thrilled to welcome her onboard. Paula joins us as the Member Partnerships Officer drawing on her previous experience in Human Resources to better understand our members and their needs. With a background as a musician and through her work in HR Paula is an incredible addition to the CBAA team, and we look forward to seeing her thrive in this new role.

What drew you to community radio and thus to your role at CBAA?

I come from a music performance and education background and felt it was time for a change. I have been a supporter of community radio for many years and have great respect for the role it plays in society. I jumped at the chance to work within the industry when I came across the advertised role.

What is something unexpected you’ve learnt about the community radio sector since commencing your role at CBAA?

I guess I would have to say I was surprised to learn there are so many stations, and that the listenership figures in some areas are almost the same as the listenership figures for commercial radio.

You are offered a radio show - you can have any timeslot, play whatever music you like, discuss whatever you feel is of interest - what’s happening today on the Paula Baxter Variety Hour Radio Show?

I would promote local soul, jazz, blues, rnb artists as I don’t feel these genres are represented as much as they should be on either radio platform. I would also have focus and discussion groups on building more cultural diversity in the arts both at community and educational levels.  How exciting would that be.
