The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) has submitted a response to the Australian Communications and Media Authority's consultation on a new framework for measuring media diversity in Australia. CBAA supports the establishment of a framework and believes that pluralism is important for a healthy media ecosystem. They are broadly supportive of the proposed model, but have some suggestions for refinements, including ensuring that community broadcasting is accurately captured in the framework, broadening the definitions of news outlets and journalism, measuring viewpoint diversity and trust, and including community broadcasting organizations in ongoing consultation. CBAA highlights the importance of community broadcasting in providing a voice for underrepresented communities and delivering local news and information. They also emphasize the role of community radio in emergency resilience and the need for government support for community broadcasting. CBAA supports expanding the scope of the news measurement framework to include digital news sites, podcasts, and social media presence.
