CBAA welcomes appointment of new Community Broadcasting Foundation President

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) warmly welcomes Professor the Hon Michael Lavarch AO to his new role as President of the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF).

Professor Lavarch served as an Attorney General in the Keating Government and has served in public office at Federal and local levels.

He also has a distinguished record of advancing social justice, particularly for First Nations communities having provided oversight for the establishment of the native title regime.

CBAA President Jacquie Riddell welcomed Prof Lavarch to the community broadcasting sector on behalf of the CBAA, our member stations, staff, and board.

“His knowledge of politics, finance and not-for-profit governance will be a great asset to the community broadcasting sector.

“His passion for social justice and, in particular, his commitment to the rights of First Nations communities will hold him in good stead as we work to deliver the Roadmap 2033 – our sector’s 10-year vision for community broadcasting to be at the heart of all Australian communities."

“We thank the outgoing CBF President, Ian Hamm, for his outstanding leadership and his commitment to uniting and strengthening our sector.

“Ian was a driving force for the close partnership between the CBF and CBAA to develop Roadmap 2033.

“Ian has laid strong foundations for collaboration and progress, and we are deeply grateful for his contribution.”

“We now look forward to welcoming Prof Lavarch as we continue to work collaboratively with the CBF and other community broadcasting organisations to address the strategic priorities identified by our members in the Roadmap."
