Get to Know Us: Andrew Khedoori
Amrap Manager, Andrew Khedoori
Through Amrap, the CBAA offers services for signed and unsigned Australian musicians, major and independent record labels, music business enterprises, and all Australian community radio stations and program makers. One of the key figures ensuring that these relationships thrive is Amrap Manager Andrew Khedoori.
You’re relatively new to community radio having only been involved for 25-30 years – what have you learned during your brief time in the sector?
The sector is really reflective of how all the vibrant communities across Australia can tell many stories about who we are. There are a lot of people with great passion and energy for those stories and making sure they get heard. That is powerful and unique.
As part of your various roles in the sector, you’ve been a Music Director at a station and now you’re liaising with Music Directors to ensure greater coverage of Australian music. What has each role taught you about the other?
Moving from a radio station to Amrap, you see the bigger picture for Australian music and the widescreen view for how community radio plays its part. The impact collectively to grow and develop Australian music and its culture isn’t always immediately seen, but it’s always building.
Where do you see Australian music headed and what role will community radio and Amrap play as part of this future?
I see community radio’s role as getting bigger because so many media opportunities for new and emerging Australian acts have shrunk. Community radio is an asset hiding in plain site during these time and Amrap will be there to make that very well known.
