Community Broadcasting Suicide Prevention Project - March 2023

The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the April 2023 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month, we find out about the mental health continuum Beyond Blue has developed to help us talk about social and emotional wellbeing.

We learn about The National Communications Charter, an evidence-informed resource to guide the way the mental health and suicide prevention sectors, government, business and community talk about mental ill-health and suicide.

We learn about the range of culturally accessible suicide prevention and mental health resources which Embrace Multicultural Mental Health provides for Australian mental health services and multicultural communities.

We find out about 13YARN, a national service offering a confidential one-on-one over the phone yarning opportunity and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping.

And we profile StandBy: Support After Suicide, a community-based program dedicated to supporting people and communities across the country that have been bereaved or impacted by suicide.

For more information on this project, please contact the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia on (02) 9310 2999, or email: [email protected].

Segments can be accessed via the CRN box.
