Summary of New ACMA Radiocommunications Licence Conditions
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has introduced two new licence condition Determinations for community broadcasters:
The CBAA is satisfied that the intent of these Determinations does not introduce significant changes to existing operational or administrative requirements. They align with the expectations outlined in current Technical Guidelines for Community Broadcasting Licensees and Temporary Community Broadcasting Licensees.

Some Key Points
  • Advance Notice Before Broadcasting
Stations must publish their intended start date, frequency and contact details at least 7 days before commencing broadcasts. This can be done via a website or similarly accessible method.
  • Avoid Interference
Transmissions must not interfere with other services. Ensure all equipment is correctly configured.
  • Follow Technical Planning Guidelines
These guidelines, determined under broadcasting legislation, cover essential technical and operational requirements.
  • Keep Accurate Records
Stations using high-power transmitters must maintain detailed records. This practice is recommended for all setups.
  • Stay Within Licensed Coverage
Broadcasts must remain within the licensed area as specified in your licence conditions.
  • Ensure Electromagnetic Safety
Equipment must comply with established electromagnetic emission safety standards.

Why This Matters
These requirements support the quality and safety of Australia’s broadcasting services. Meeting them is essential to retain your broadcasting licence.
