The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia has collaborated with the ABC Emergency team to produce new guidance material and audio stings to assist community broadcasters and their audience in times of disaster.
These resources come as part of a strategic partnership between CBAA and the ABC aimed at supporting the diversity of local news reporting, both geographically and culturally, as well as ensuring that vital information continues to be broadcast during emergencies.
"Community broadcasters play a crucial role in keeping their communities informed and safe during emergencies,” said Diana Burnett, General Manager of the CBAA.
“CBAA is grateful to the ABC for their collaboration and commitment in producing these materials, which will empower broadcasters to serve their communities with confidence and care.”
Donna Field, the ABC’s Head Regional, Rural & Metro News and Emergency Broadcasting, said the ABC began emergency broadcasting when there was a threat to life or property.
“There are many examples where ABC broadcasters and community broadcasters have come together locally to help each other out during times of emergency,” Field said.
“This collaboration is the next step in us working together to provide local communities with the information they need during these times. As an emergency broadcaster, the ABC has substantial knowledge and experience to share with CBAA and its members.”
