WEBINAR: Free Digital Skills Training
CBAA, Google, and AAP have teamed up to provide free digital training to bolster your reporting.
The year-long collaboration includes free online and in-person sessions delivered by Neil Varcoe, AAP’s Newsroom Innovation Trainer and former Google Fellow.
We’ve scheduled three exclusive sessions starting Tuesday, July 16, and continuing each Tuesday at 11 AM. This is a unique opportunity to take this training this year, as AAP’s contract with Google ends next month.
The workshops comprise a refreshed version of Fundamentals—Google's classic newsroom trainer—and two new world-first modules on fighting misinformation and data-led storytelling.
Presented by: Neil Varcoe
Neil is a journalist, lecturer and trainer with more than 20 years of experience at the bleeding edge of newsroom innovation.
He has trained thousands of journalists through various roles, including his world-first appointment as a Google Publishing Fellow, a lecturer at Australian universities, and during stints with major news organisations such as the ABC and News Corp.
Neil also worked at Twitter, now X, as Editorial Curation Lead in Australia, spearheading major news coverage and fighting disinformation. He launched the online verification start-up Storyful in Australia and led the Online News Association in Australia.
