POSITION: Station Manager, Canberra (ACT)

Radio 1RPH informs and entertains listeners across the Canberra, Wagga Wagga and Junee regions by turning print into sound. 

Radio 1RPH is a member of RPH Australia and a participating station in the National RPH network, one of the largest in Australia, reaching 80% of the population.

Purpose of the position:

The Station Manager manages and oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the station, and works towards the strategic objectives of 1RPH with a particular focus on its legislative, administrative and community responsibilities. The Station Manager is responsible for seeking grant opportunities, grant writing and grants management. The Station Manager supports the Volunteer Representative to provide supervision and guidance to the 1RPH volunteers. The Station Manager is expected to attend/oversee internal and external events as part of 1RPH’s commitment to community engagement. (A Time-in-Lieu system will be put in place for this).         

General Duties

  • Oversee the day to day administration of the station, including management of financial, accountability and compliance practices;
  • Participate in a change program to improve station management practices including volunteer and member administration, volunteer recruitment and training, external communications and station promotion;
  • Liaise with external stakeholders and clients including sponsors, donors, members of the public and community radio counterparts
  • Monitor and report regularly to the Committee on the availability of external grants and recommend action; develop grant applications and acquit external grants received
  • Provide advice and support as needed to technical, production and programming teams

It is expected that the Station Manager will work with others to develop solutions to the efficient management of routine Station administrative and operational functions such as cleaning, simple purchasing, roster preparation, live program preparation, telephone answering, reception duties and other tasks as required

Selection Criteria

  • Relevant knowledge and/or experience of community radio broadcasting in a voluntary context
  • Sound knowledge of Radio 1RPH’s objectives and demonstrated capacity to contribute to the organisation Strategic Plan
  • Advanced ability to use office desktop applications including spreadsheets and data analytics. Familiarity with audio editing and production software packages will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, including supervision and delegation of tasks as required.
  • High level of written, oral and personal communication skills

Reports to: President, Radio 1RPH

Terms of Employment: Part-time (22.5 hours per week) until March 2021 when post will be subject to further review
