National Radio News
National Radio News (NRN) serves nearly 90 regional and community stations across Australia, and the network is growing all the time.
NRN provides hourly news bulletins 6am-7pm (NSW-time) Monday to Friday and 6am-12pm weekends to subscriber stations via the Community Radio Network satellite.
Our aim is to deliver an authoritative news service. Our editorial judgment is genuinely independent, impartial, and not geographically centric. We broadcast for the benefit of our listeners and to provide the best possible training for journalists.
NRN is supported by the
Community Broadcasting Foundation, the
Community Broadcasting Association of Australia,
Charles Sturt University, and
2MCE-FM
About NRNNational Radio News is produced in Bathurst NSW. The 3 full-time journalists are supported by Cadets from Charles Sturt University. Former Cadets now work for the ABC, Sky News, Channel 9, Channel 7 - even in ministerial offices as Media Advisers.
NRN covers national and international news, partly with the help of the BBC, Sky News and Australian Associated Press (AAP). Many subscriber stations are in regional Australia, so there's a particular focus on the information needs of people who live outside the big cities. Each bulletin is 4-minutes long and it's a mix of national and international news plus sport and finance.
The service commenced on March 31, 1997 and is available to all stations with satellite reception equipment and access to the CBAA’s ComRadSat service. Currently 80 stations in every state and territory in Australia subscribe to the service.
Subscribing to NRNNational Radio News is a non-profit enterprise and is available to any radio station connected to the Australia-wide ComRadSat network. Two-week trial periods are available for stations thinking about subscribing to the service.
There is a progressive pricing structure which aims to charge stations according to their means as measured by gross annual revenue. There are two components to the fee:
i) the NRN fee on which a 25% discount is available to CBAA members, and
ii) the AAP fee on which there is not (because AAP sets the charge).
The service is available as a total package only. The cost of the service can be covered by local sponsorship. Marketing information based on community stations experience in securing local news sponsorship is available to interested stations. Many subscriber stations are generating revenue for themselves over and above the cost of the service.
All prices include GST. For more info
