Codes of Practice

The Broadcasting Services Act 1992 includes legislative requirements for all broadcasting services, including temporary and fully licenced community broadcasters. One of these requirements is the Codes of Practice, a document of self-regulation for each broadcasting sector in Australia.

Codes of Practice are available as a web page (html format) or as an Adobe Acrobat Reader document (pdf format)

Codes of Practice - TV

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia is pleased to announce that the Australian Broadcasting Authority today registered the Community Television Code of Practice.

The Code reflects the Parliament’s intention that industry groups develop codes of practice that are to apply to the broadcasting operations of their respective industry, as set down in section 123(1) of the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 (Cth).

The Code was drafted in consultation with community television stations, sector organizations, industry and government bodies and the general public.

Community Service Announcement
Code 7 explains the requirement that stations must broadcast an announcement about the Codes of Practice:

'7.2 Licensees will provide a minimum of 50 on-air announcements every year containing information about Community Broadcasting Codes of Practice and how audiences may obtain them.'

As such, the CBAA now provides a Community Service Announcement advising listeners of the station's obligations under the code.
