UPDATED: 2012 SYN Awards

Thirty-seven young people were recognised for their outstanding contributions to media at the annual SYN Awards, held on Monday 20th February, 2012.

Among the winners was Leon Sjogren, Executive Producer of Austereo's nationally syndicated show The Hot 30, who won SYN’s TV Presenter of the Year Award.

Leon credits SYN for launching his media career.

"I am really honoured to have won a SYN award; SYN has been a great staple in my media training and helped me get to where I am today", he said.

The SYN Awards ceremony was streamed live via Ustream throughout the night and was trending in Melbourne with the hashtag #SYNawards.

The event also took on a 'welcome to the media jungle' theme with attendees dressed to impress in their jungle best.

In attendance were Minister for Youth Affairs, The Hon. Ryan Smith, Deputy Lord Mayor Susan Riley, and Adam Bandt MP, who promised to include a 'jungle pun' in Hansard next week in recognition of SYN’s night of nights.

SYN provides media training and broadcast opportunities to over 1000 young people each year and has launched the careers of hundreds of content creators in its 11 year history. SYN's alumni includes Hamish and Andy, Ryan Shelton and Scott Pape (The Barefoot Investor).

Congratulations to all winners and nominees. A full list of winners is available here.
