The Deadlys 2012 - live broadcast on community radio

Once again the National Indigenous Radio Service and Community Radio Network will be syndicating a live broadcast from The Deadly Awards.

It's happening at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 25 September, from 19:30 to 22:30 EST. Stations wanting more information should contact Martin Walters at the CBAA on 02 9310 2999 or email.

The Deadlys 2012

Some of the country’s best Indigenous musicians will be performing at this year’s Deadly Awards at the Sydney Opera House on September 25.

Jess Mauboy, John Bennett, Yabu Band, Deborah Cheetham, Dewayne Everettsmith, Thelma Plum and the Yung Warriors will all be performing on the night.

This year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community Awards, aka the Deadlys®, showcases established musicians as well as giving a stage to the new musical talent that is emerging from across the country.

Jess Mauboy will sing a song from the hit film The Sapphires that will have everyone rocking.  Always one to impress, Jess is also a finalist in a few Deadly Award categories on the night – including Female Artist of the Year and Single of the Year with her song Galaxy.

Appearing at the Sunset Ceremony is John Bennett, a singer who can transport listeners to his home country in the Kimberley’s with his stirring music and evocative lyrics. He is up for an award in the Male Artist of the Year category. Also playing at sunset will be desert-rockers, Yabu Band from Kalgoorlie. These boys are up for a Deadly in the Single of the Year category with their song Petrol, Paint and Glue. Beautiful and talented young songstress Thelma Plum, nominated in the Most Promising New Talent in Music, is also perform at the Sunset Ceremony.

A poignant moment in the Concert Hall show will be a tribute to the late, legendary gentleman of song Uncle Dr Jimmy Little by leading opera singer Deborah Cheetham. 

Some of the other new talent performing on the night is Tasmanian Aboriginal singer/songwriter Dewayne Everettsmith, who penned the tune It’s Like Love for Tourism Australia. This song has been used in the latest ads promoting Australia and it has just taken the world by storm. Dewayne is also up for a Deadly in the Most Promising New Talent in Music category. 

Deadly Executive Producer Gavin Jones has got a great show planned for this year’s Deadly Awards.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers with Circus Oz will entertain us on the Opera House mainstage and we’ll also be featuring a hip hop show, Standing Strong with rising hip hop group Yung Warriors,” Gavin says. 

“We have a diverse range of presenters who will bring their humour, insights and presence to the stage. The Deadlys® is a show that will be enjoyed – both for live audiences in the Concert Hall and in homes around Australia via the national radio simulcast through NIRS and CRN, and for television viewers when the Deadlys® is broadcast on SBS1 on 30 September 2012.”

The Deadlys® is back for its 18th year and voting for the finalists across all 29 award categories has been completed and the numbers are being tallied.
