NEW to CRN - Wrokdown Radio (Inner FM)
Wrokdown Radio’s mission is to promote new Australian music by legendary heritage acts. Think of the likes of Spectrum, Chain, Kevin Borich, Brian Cadd and Russell Morris.
Wrokdown radio came about as the result of a conversation Anita Monk had with a major label executive about the lack of marketability of heritage acts. Anita, as producer of Wrokdown TV, had asked for a copy of the new video by Ringo Starr.
The aforementioned executive answered “we wouldn’t stock that, there’s no market for that type of product in Australia, we only cater to the younger audience”. Incensed, Monk vowed to change this incomprehensible situation knowing there is a whole demographic being ignored. Wrokdown radio was born.
Based on Anita’s successful formula for Wrokdown TV (as seen on Channel 31 and hosted by Wendy Stapleton, who will co-present the radio show with Bobby Valentine) promoting heritage acts through interviews and film clips, she decided to extend the concept into radio to give the music itself the exposure she feels it deserves.
Therefore, Wrokdown radio’s mission is to promote new music by legendary heritage acts. “These acts didn’t stop writing music and performing in the 70s – they actually went from strength to strength, and despite lacking industry support, continue to do so” says Monk. “Our goal is to put this right - give them a platform so that the public can not only rediscover these greats from their past, but also let them hear the brilliant new work that is being completely ignored by the commercial sector.”
Wrokdown radio will prove that there is a strong market for this music and these acts, vindicating Anita’s stand against the attitudes of that powerful label executive and his industry in general. The Wrokdown radio playlist features old and new material from the legends. Anita says “we take you down memory lane, and then hit you between the eyes with a sensational new track by the same artist. It’s that simple”.
Wrokdown radio presenter Bobby Valentine adds “It’s not just about the old blokes though. We like to discover new music from emerging artists of all ages. As long as it’s good and Australian, we’ll give it a go on Wrokdown radio, who else can say that?”
So there you have it, at Wrokdown radio we feel Australian music fans have been denied long enough. It’s not just about ‘hits and memories’, we love that, but we want give music fans the opportunity to move on - so do the artists.
