Hi,

I'm seeking any comments on the Logitek digital console that was reported by radioinfo this year that comes in around the 10k mark. Anyone who has seen, using or reviewed this product?

The router is Jetstream MINI – details of which can be found here - http://www.logitekaudio.com/jetstream_mini.html

The new Surface is Pilot comes in 6, 12 or 18 fader sizes - http://www.logitekaudio.com/pilot.html

Had a quick look at this

Had a quick look at this console. Noticed that in their manual and datasheet there is no mention of any audio performance specifications. I find this a bit suspicious.

In my experience wtih digital consoles, the performance to price ratio is much lower than analog consoles. I have some experience with the Klotz Paradigm digital console. It's performance was abysmal compared to a simarly sized analog console and it was twice the price.

The main problems were with the microphone preamps and the sample rate conversions. Adjusting the gain of a mic preamp in the digital domain is not an easy thing to achieve. The rather simplistic approach that Klotz took in the Paradigm was to use a rather low amount of fixed gain in the front end preamp and then make up any additional gain required in the digital domain bringing the noise floor at the output of the front end preamp up with it. As a result, the noise performance was acceptable if you were using a high output condenser mic but in our case our rather deaf Shure SM7 resulted in a S/N ratio of about 38dB (totally unacceptable for broadcast). In the end I had to modify the console to increase the amount of gain in the front end preamp probably voiding our warranty in the process and making it impossible to use a condeser mic on the console. The problem with sample rate conversions occurred when you connected a 44.1kHz source such as a CD player to a digital input. The console, in coverting the sample rate to the internal rate of 48kHz that is used professionally would introduce about 8% THD in the process.

My best advice is that unless you have megabucks to spend on the serious contenders, go for an analog console.
