1. Best Innovative New Program or Content Initiative
Recognising an outstanding initiative in your programming or media content. The CBAA has a vision for our sector to be renowned for its creativity, energy and professionalism. Individual programs, a programming initiative, segment, or other forms of media content, such as podcasting, blogging, magazine articles, are encouraged

2. Excellence in Community Participation
Recognising a station that, over the past 12 months, has actively sought and involved new communities. Encouraging active community
engagement and participation is fundamental to our role. How has your station engaged with a new community, for example age based,
gender or special interest groups? This category recognises on-air involvement, the formation of new committees, development of new
policies and initiatives through training, mentors, financial support, new equipment, strategic planning or other activities.

Recognising station-created content in digital broadcasting, web streaming, podcasting, blogging, digital video or general digital media content. What new things are you doing at your station? Have you used technology to develop innovative ways to serve your audience? Has technology helped your station train volunteers or improve management structures?

4. Excellence in Training
Recognising a new training initiative with a significant impact at your station. Training happens in many ways and through many forms; from accredited training projects, to grass-roots initiatives. We want to hear about training that has worked for you and how it has an ongoing
positive value to your station. The winning station will receive a weekend of CBAA training to the value of $2,000 for their station.

 5. Excellence in Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasting
Recognising a station that, over the past 12 months, has actively sought and involved ethnic, multicultural or new and emerging communities. As community broadcasting stations we encourage active community engagement and participation. How has your station committed itself to engaging with ethnic, multicultural or new and emerging communities? This category is not limited to just on-air involvement, but could also include the formation of new committees, policies or initiatives to include ethnic, multicultural or new and emerging communities.

8. Contribution to Indigenous Broadcasting
Recognising a station that, over the past 12 months, has demonstrated its commitment to Indigenous broadcasting. Indigenous broadcasting is defined by the participation of Indigenous people in key production, editorial and management roles - broadcasting for and by Indigenous people. This award is judged by the Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA).

9. Excellence in Spoken Word, News and Current Affairs Programming (Proudly Sponsored by Deutsche Welle)
Recognising excellence in spoken word or news and current affairs programming. This award is bestowed upon a station that has excelled in providing regular programs or individual stories. This may cover segments or programs such as Arts, Comedy, Documentary, Poetry,
Magazine, or news coverage that is independently dealt with and may be innovative in its approach.

10. Most Innovative Outside Broadcast or Special Event Broadcast
Recognising special broadcasting events and outside broadcasts. Tell us about a unique OB, whether because of its location or interesting subject matter; or a special event broadcast, such as Reconciliation Day or International Women’s Day. The winning entry will demonstrate how it serves a particular community need or provides key information relevant to the station’s audience.

11. Best Initiative to Build Station Capacity
Recognising ingenuity, core values and partnerships. This can be an initiative that has helped raise new forms of revenue by promoting the values of community broadcasting, has significantly increased your stations profile in your community or has lead to new partnerships with other community-based organisations.

12. Troy Garner Excellence in Sports Programming
Recognising a station’s significant contribution through sports programming, with a focus on community-based sporting activities that receive limited coverage in the wider media. This award is offered in memory of the former CBAA staff member, Troy Garner, a passionate sports broadcaster. This award attracts a cash prize offered by the Garner family.
Winner: JOY 94.9 for The Sports Lounge produced by Tanya Jones.
Highly Commended: Fresh FM for Fresh Football produced by Dom Rinaldo, Alby Kidd, Cameron Wallace and Chris Velliaris.

 13. Tony Staley Award for Excellence in Community Broadcasting (Proudly Sponsored by the Community Broadcasting Foundation)
Recognising a community station that promotes the values of community broadcasting - ‘democracy, diversity and independence’. Entries should include material that highlights the stations activities through the year, letters of support, or anything that shows how your station is successful. You may wish to illustrate how the stations management structures encourage active participation by all members of your community, how the station has connected with various groups, or activities it undertakes which benefit the station and its community. This award attracts a cash prize of $2750 from the Community Broadcasting Foundation. Tony Staley was instrumental in the development of the sector.

 14. Michael Law Award
Recognising an individual who has made a sustained and outstanding contribution to the sector. Michael Law was one of the founders of
community broadcasting in the 1970s. (This award is not open to applications.)
