Like Minded Stations - Sub-Metro

The Gathering of Like Minds was an informal meeting of different station groups (Rural/Regional, Indigenous, RPH, Christian, Ethnic, Metro, Sub-Metro and Youth) coordinated by a representative from each station type. The aim of this gathering was to share knowledge and experiences with delegates from stations from similar backgrounds. It proved to be a great opportunity to exchange ideas with peers involved in community broadcasting.

The Sub-Metro meeting was facilitated by Natalie Pozdeev, Station Manager of 2RRR in Ryde and the Women's Representative for the CBAA Board.

Digital radio was one topic of interest at the like-minded session for sub-metro stations at the CBAA Conference. People wanted to know how sub-metros fit into the digital scheme of things. The CBAA's newly appointed Digital Radio Project Manager, Ian Laird and Policy Manager Craig Liddell went along to the meeting to attempt to answer the many questions about the new technology.

Please enjoy the recording of the session. You will hear about:

  • The initial phases of the digital rollout which involves the city-wide metropolitan stations in each of the six state capital cities. The start date for digital broadcasting in Australia is 1 January 2009;

  • The government has yet to decide on the technological platform, the timing and structure for digital radio for sub-metros and rural and regional areas; and

  • We already exist to some extent in a digital environment, when we use computers to help with broadcasting content or management or we stream our programs or make them available as podcasts.
