Governance Session

TG&group-Govday.jpg (15k)
Prior to the 2007 Conference the CBAA offered a one-day professional development seminar on good governance, facilitated by Terry Kilmister, a widely published and highly experienced governance specialist with 25 years in the area. The seminar addressed a wide range of issues relevant to directors and boards of community associations in keeping with the concept of good governance.

Key themes include:
  • the role of a governing board and the duties of directors -- legal and moral;
  • building and sustaining a productive partnership between boards, managers, staff and volunteers;
  • the board’s role in the strategic planning process;
  • making good use of the constitution, board policies and other governance documents;
  • running effective meetings; and
  • reporting, monitoring and assessing board and management's performance.
