Shorts E
DDN Shorts E is committed to featuring community service announcements for important campaigns. This is lead by the Energize project.

Energize

The ‘energize’ community education project has been developed by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, and funded by the New South Wales Government’s Climate Change Fund. The project aims to promote a culture of wise energy use to communities throughout New South Wales. A major focus of this one-year project is on promoting best practice in saving energy, using examples of businesses, households and community groups who have made a real difference in the way they use energy. The project also provides people in New South Wales with practical tips on saving energy in the home and in their businesses, community organisations and schools. Two five-minute and three 60-second audio tracks on energy efficiency are produced by the energize team. This month (October 2008) we look at some great ways individuals and communities can save money and save energy at the same time. We profile a community initiative underway in the town of Bangalow where over 70 local households have joined together to install solar panels at a greatly reduced cost. We look at the Fridge Buyback program in Sydney, which can actually pay you to remove your old second fridge. And we look at rebates available from the New South Wales Government to replace electric hot water systems with climate friendly solar, heat pump or gas systems, and to install ceiling insulation and rainwater tanks.
