Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)


ACMA is an independent federal statutory authority responsible for the regulation of the broadcasting industry and online services. The Authority has provided spectrum for digital radio trials and convened a number of committees to explore the issues surrounding the new platform.

Broadcast Australia
Broadcast Australia is a broadcast transmission services provider. Since 2003, the Australian broadcasting industry has actively participated in three Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) Radio Trials – a trial conducted by Broadcast Australia in Melbourne, a Sydney trial managed by Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) and a Broadcast Australia/SBS Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) trial in Canberra.

Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF)


The Community Broadcasting Foundation is an independent non-profit funding agency that solicits and distributes funds for the maintenance and development of community broadcasting in Australia. The Foundation has provided support for relevant research and for sector engagement with emerging policy development.

Digital Radio Australia (DRBA)
Digital Radio Broadcasting Australia (DRBA) is a partnership of commercial and national radio broadcasters set up to run the digital radio trials in Sydney.

Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB)
DRDB is the UK equivalent of Digital Radio Australia. Its stakeholders are the BBC and commercial broadcasters.

Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM)
The DRM consortium formed in March 1998, when a small group of broadcasters and manufacturers joined forces to create a universal, digital system for the broadcasting bands below 30 MHz.

Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA)
DCITA became a single portfolio in 1998. The portfolio consists of the core Department and many communications, broadcasting, arts and statutory agencies and bodies. The Department's vision, “is that Australia will continue to develop world-class communications, information technology, sport and cultural sectors that will build on the creativity of our people and the opportunities provided by new technologies, to enrich the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of all Australians.”

World Digital Audio Broadcasting Forum (World DAB)
WorldDAB is an international, non-governmental organisation whose role is to promote the awareness, adoption and implementation of Eureka 147 based technologies worldwide.
