With the election getting nearer, now is the time to make sure you know your responsibilities for broadcasting political material. Do you need to keep records?

Do you have to invite all parties to speak on air? What is the blackout period?

It's very important that you know the answer to all of these questions and more.

Thankfully, it's really not as hard as it sounds, and to make things even easier for you included is a summary in plain English of exactly what's required.

Guidelines for Broadcasting Political Material
This is a guideline document produced by ACMA (formerly the ABA) which gives a detailed explanation of what is and what is not considered to be 'political material'.  

Broadcaster Return Form
This is the official form released by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) for recording all political material broadcast on your station. This form must be completed and returned to the AEC by Monday 6th December 2004.  

Broadcasters and Publishers Funding Disclosure Handbook
This is an AEC publication which clearly explains how to fill in the Broadcast Return Forms.
