Advice and Support

We offer individual advice to CBAA members on all community broadcasting matters such as; broadcast law, copyright, training, station management, human resources, technical suppliers, programming, fundraising, tax, sponsorship, handling complaints and much more. There is lots of this information available on this web site.

Latest News

The CBAA keeps member stations in touch with sector news and developments in the following ways: fortnightly email newsletters, physical mailouts and our website.

The CBAA also publishes the community broadcasting industry's national magazine, the CBX.

Programming

The Community Radio Network (CRN) is the CBAA's program distribution service. Subscribers can access a selection of the best programs and segments from community radio  around the country to enhance local programming. These include the National Radio News, live current affairs with The Wire, the award-winning Good Morning Country breakfast show, festivals, and over 100 more specialist talks and music programs. Audio is delivered 24/7 via satellite, and through the associated Digital Delivery Network stations can automatically capture content via satellite and/or an online audio stream. CBF funding is available for set-up costs.

Technical Support

The CBAA Technical Consultant provides members with advice on technical matters such as studio design, acoustics, transmitter considerations, RF Hazards, variable conditions and more.

Lobbying

The CBAA is recognised as the national association representing the interests of community broadcasting licensees. As a member you have the power to influence the lobbying efforts made by the CBAA on your behalf. Such efforts include the migration to digital spectrum, strategies to attract government funding and legislation affecting the activities of community broadcasting licensees.

Representation

Sector representations are made by the CBAA to relevant government and industry bodies such as the Department of Boadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE), the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA), copyright agencies (APRA, AMCOS and PPCA), the media (ABC, SBS, Commercial Radio Australia, Free TV Australia, ASTRA) and unions (CPSU, MEAA).

CBAA Conference

The annual CBAA Conference for community broadcasters provides stations with an opportunity to network with over 250 community broadcasters. The CBAA also co-ordinates the CBAA Awards which acknowledges quality programming produced by CBAA member stations.

Free Legal Advice

The CBAA and Tress Cox Lawyers Australia have established the Duty Solicitor Program which provides CBAA member stations with access to a solicitor for a free 20 minute telephone consultation. The program will provide CBAA member stations with easy access to legal advice from solicitors with expertise in broadcasting and media law.

Community Broadcasting Dispute Resolution Initiative

The CBAA has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators of Australia (IAMA) to provide pro-bono mediation services to CBAA Members in the case of an internal dispute. To apply for this Service, please complete and submit the following form available here - it will be treated with the utmost confidence.

Please note, that only the President of the Board or a person delegated to manage the grievance is eligible to access this service.

Financial Benefits

Due to the size of the CBAA membership, we are in a good position to negotiate bulk deals on behalf of our member stations. The following financial incentives are available to CBAA Members only.

Reduced CRN Fees

National Radio News
Receive a 25% discount for news on the hour. Member stations pay $209 - $484 per month for this news service. Non members pay an additional 25%. Over a year, a member can save up to $1100.

Defamation Insurance
AON Risk Services provide insurance packages to companies and associations. Defamation insurance is available to CBAA Members for approx. $850. Non members pay a minimum of $2200. Public liability, property insurance and directors liability insurance is also available at competitive rates.

Public Liability and Property Insurance
The CBAA has renegotiated its deal with AON Risk Services for the provision of general insurance to member stations. As an indication of premiums; Public Liability rates start at $115 pa; Content insurance to the value of $30,000 attracts a premium of $160; Volunteer Accident coverage starts at 75 cents for each volunteer. You can also nominate to cover damage to volunteer vehicles from $100 pa.

PPCA
Established in 1969, the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia Limited is a national, non government, non-profit organisation that represents the interest of record companies and Australian recording artists. The CBAA has negotiated a discounted rate on behalf of its members for PPCA fees.
