Your Rights
The ‘Your Rights’ project seeks to inform people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds throughout New South Wales about their legal rights and responsibilities, build their knowledge of the justice system, and inform them of the legal services and resources that are available to them.
This project aims to provide community radio stations around the state, as well as community, ethnic and legal organisations, with a package of audio and printed material they can use on an ongoing basis to promote greater awareness of legal issues and services to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds around New South Wales.
The ‘Your Rights’ project has produced a series of six two-minute radio segments in eight key languages: Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Greek, Italian and Samoan.
These radio segments focus on the following topics:
- Introduction to the legal system
- Family law and issues relating to children
- Domestic violence and Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs)
- Dealing with debt
- Tenants rights
- Welfare rights
The information in these radio segments applies to people who live in, or are affected by, the law as it applies in New South Wales as at 1 May 2009. The content of this program is intended as a guide to the law, and should not be used as a substitute for legal advice.
The ‘Your Rights’ project is funded by the Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales.
The 'Your Rights' package contains 6 tracks in 8 different languages. Selected excerpts from the 'Your Rights' series are available to download as mp3's below.
