Your Station's website- Social networking and Membership Management for Community Radio Presenters: Brandon Saul, Executive Director, Community Engine Case study: Social media has revolutionised the way people interact with each other. In the same way that social technologies have changed our personal lives, social business is fundamentally changing how organisations engage their communities. With the use of the latest social networking, membership management and community engagement technology, FBi Radio is proactively fostering an active online community. In doing so it is creating a social space for members, supporters and listeners to talk about their passions with each other. The net result is an increase in membership of 200%, and the cost of managing the member base have been reduced as the bulk of the work is now highly efficient and automated allowing staff to focus on other key operational areas. AirNet helps you easily collect music content and general news to display on your station website and individual program pages, and can be used to report airplay during APRA week. TrackIt: Amrap’s AirIt is fast becoming the world’s largest non-profit database of Australian music. Streaming and Outside Broadcasting Including Using Audio Over IP to Take Charge of Your Future Presenters: Chris Johnson, Manager, AMRAP An introduction to the various methods of recording and transmitting an outside broadcast. Wired and wireless IP (internet Protocol) networks will be used to transmit an outside broadcast from a remote location to the station. Cost effective solutions using a laptop or mobile phone will be compared to more traditional methods using a dedicated hardware codec. Various pitfalls and tips on planning will also be discussed, including equipment requirements. There will be general information on AoIP (audio over IP) and what is happening with it around the world. AoIP is discussed in more detail to explain its possibilities and specific advantages in relation to community broadcasting. We will compare older analogue and leased line systems with AoIP and look at how a station can migrate from one to the other. The Educational Interest Presenter: Deborah Welch, Radio Adelaide (Ed) Community stations with an educational ‘community interest’ include some of our best known and celebrated stations, but many people don’t know who we are! There are 8 ‘educational’ stations, 12 with formal links to Universities or an educational focus, and 6 who are Registered Training Organisations in our sector. This is a chance for stations with educational interests to get together, discuss mutual interests and challenges, including recent ACMA guidelines that have specific provisions for educational licensees and make sure our contribution to the diversity of community broadcasting activities is recognised.
